I think the factoid was from Fast Food Nation ... that there can be meat from up to 100 cows in one single hamburger. The numerous bovines in supermarket ground beef and fast food burgers is also responsible for mini outbreaks of e. coli, since one infected cow could be found in multitudes of burgers, nationwide.
This is not a rallying cry for vegetarianism, at least not for me. Rather, this is why you should grind your own beef at home. Or have your awesometown butcher do it for you.
